At The Arts Council, we are very excited about hosting the Official Alabama State Fiddling Championship, presented by GEICO, at the Panoply Arts Festival once again!  Representative Mike Ball has agreed to co-chair this event along with local dentist and fiddle legend, Dr. Mark Ralph.  Dr. Ralph is well known throughout the fiddle world as a strong competitor, respected judge, and excellent musician, having won numerous contests, including the Tennessee State Contest, The Walnut Valley Championship, and the Tennessee Valley Fiddlers Convention in Athens, AL.  Representative Mike Ball spearheaded the resolution through the House which created the Official State Fiddling Championship event.

This competition is open to contestants from across the nation.  It consists of five total categories:  four amateur levels divided by age and one Master Fiddler level open to all ages.  Each category offers five monetary prizes and trophies, and the winner of the “Master Fiddler” level will be awarded a cash prize of $1000, along with the Official Alabama State Championship Governor’s Cup.

If you don't feel like entering but still would love to participate, just bring your instrument and jam with the musicians.  Pre-registration/application forms for 2010 are available HERE!
