TOYOTA MOTOR MANUFACTURING ALABAMA INC.
ART MARKETPLACE
Think OUTSIDE the Frame!
The Arts Council, Inc. invites fine artists everywhere to apply to exhibit and sell their work at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Alabama Inc. Art Marketplace during each year’s Panoply Arts Festival...
Types of media which may be exhibited include clay, drawing, fiber, glass, jewelry, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and wood – or any combination of these materials.
As part of the Art Marketplace, TAC also promotes Emerging Artists and Art Educators sections. Exhibiting in the Emerging Artists area are those between the ages of 17 and 27 (or artists of any age currently enrolled in a studio art course at the college level) who have never had a gallery contract. The Educators’ area is open to artists who have actively taught art classes in public/private elementary and secondary schools or colleges/universities prior to April 2010. All Emerging/Educators work is individually juried into the show by a separate panel with a maximum of three pieces selected from each artist.
Held the last full weekend of each April in downtown Huntsville’s Big Spring International Park & Von Braun Center, the outdoor, family-friendly festival has consistently ranked among the “Top Twenty Events” in the Southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society. Attendance for this three-day spectacular typically exceeds 100,000+ people (with record-breaking attendances of 100,000+ in 2007, 2008, and 2009!) who visit not only the marketplace, but also the Global Village, the Official Alabama State Fiddling Championship, the Homegrown Talent Contest, and the many other the exciting events offered.
As a result, artisans from across the United States compete for acceptance in the Art Marketplace. This art show, juried by a panel of distinguished professionals, features the best in painting, pottery, jewelry, primitive arts, and more, and accepted artists have two great opportunities: to display their one-of-a-kind artwork for sale and to compete for top monetary awards – totaling $2,600 – including the “Best of Show,” the “Award of Distinction,” five Merit Awards, the “Emerging Artist Award,” and the “Art Educator Award,” all selected by a single show judge.
Since 2007, the “Best of Show” award has been known as the “PAT FLYNN KYSER AWARD,” in honor of the renowned Alabama quilt maker whose lovely creation served as the basis for the Panoply 2007 poster and represented the best in “The Year of Alabama Arts.”
